This case study is written with the intent of providing readers with one example of how researchers can explore questions about people's professional lives as practiced. It is written within the context that there is no one definitive approach to research, but rather that it is a process of asking questions and finding solutions, in the sense of Bakan's (1996) 'significant truths'. At the same time, it shows how insights and methods of teaching and research approaches build a more holistic picture of what might drive researchers to do research; it helps position the origin of active research. It makes us think about where research topics and questions come from and what methodological and ethical constraints can arise.
