Mobile probes is a digital method where a number of informants conduct self-documenting activities by responding to questions or tasks sent to their mobile phones. We used the method to gain insight into the work processes and daily lives of students writing their Masters thesis at The Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University, Denmark: During 3 weeks in November 2012, eight Masters thesis students each received and was asked to respond to 15 probes. The overall goal was to find out whether a mobile application could be developed to support students writing their Masters thesis. The study generated insights into students daily routines. It also generated the insight that the use of mobile probes as a method in itself in some cases seemed to function as means of support for Masters thesis students.
