Onlineresurser: This research case examines the use of a dyadic research design approach and its issues in recruiting and retaining dyadic participants linked biologically or otherwise (e.g., marital association) as it impacts their attitudinal and/or behavioral outcomes. The research case described reflects the methodology presented in the author's two related empirical articles and a broader conceptual analysis of aging women's relationship issues in a recent book. A researcher utilizing this approach should develop a clear and systematic research plan in how to optimize the recruitment and retention of study pairs to ensure the integrity of the research process over time. The researcher should plan to assess that study pairs maintain needed inclusion criteria qualifications and, simultaneously, do not lose interest in continuing study participation until study participation. The research case presents research strategies to help reduce study participants' selective attrition. The approach has the benefit of attempting to address relationship factors unique to each dyadic pair while eliciting meaningful insights regarding the mutuality of the human experience in response to many different life circumstances across pairs. The gains from conducting research examining the dynamic interactions of paired human beings, and their related role-related dynamics, will contribute to different fields of knowledge, ranging from human development concepts to applied issues of therapy and intervention services for various dyads in and outside of family systems. Dyadic research is the best research approach for understanding perceptual and/or behavioral processes shared between human beings on a relational level.
