This case study presents my experience of conducting a phenomenological case study titled "Examining African American Caregiving Experiences in Caring for A Child With a Severe Mental Illness: A Phenomenological Study." The purpose of this study was to understand the caregiver's perspective regarding mental illness, in general; caregivers' views on having a child with a mental illness and mental health treatment; and coping with a child's mental illness and issues related to stigma and caregiving. In this case study, I focus on the process for conducting a qualitative research study by sharing my experiences and strategies for methodology, research questions, theoretical framework, data analysis, and collection. Readers will gain an understanding of how I adopted a phenomenological study and dealt with the complexity and challenges of the research design.
