Secondary analysis of existing qualitative data is a viable and strategic way to fully use rich data sets generated by large-scale projects. Although this type of research undertaking shares similarities with other kinds of studies, there are differences. Based on a project focused on women's experiences of healing and intimate partner violence, we crafted a case study that will assist researchers interested in designing and conducting similar work. Considerations related to research design, identifying appropriate research questions, ethics, preparation for engaging with data, and data analysis are detailed. Furthermore, the demands associated with studying sensitive topics such as lived experiences of intimate partner violence are identified.
