Online resources: In this case, I describe a published study on multitrial verbal learning that included memory self-efficacy as a variable. I discuss the use of incorporating existing stimuli into research studies and determining whether the materials are for open use or are copyrighted. I highlight the challenges of conducting this type of research, including avoiding ceiling and floor effects for verbal memory performance in a multitrial task, having sufficient power (i.e., enough participants) to determine whether memory self-efficacy is an influential variable, selecting measures, and deciding the presentation order of materials. I provide tips for choosing materials, contacting researchers for published measures, and performing a power analysis.
