Guardian or exterminator, smiling or melancholic, the Angel has accompanied the human race since the Fall. Far from being erased, like so many other fabulous creatures, in the face of the wonders of modern science, it remains, visible or invisible, the mysterious guide, faithful or deceitful, of the soul. Abundantly represented in medieval painting and sculpture, with or without wings, he is sought after by the most contemporary filmmakers. Since Romanticism, poets and novelists have resorted to his prestige as a supernatural Stranger, tempted by our mortal condition.
