The book provides an aesthetic of augmented reality by exploring the entanglement of digital and analogue elements through numerous references to the 'impure' visual worlds of art history. It shows that the specificity of this technology lies in the situatedness of its images. An aspect it shares with trompe-l'œils, sculptural reliefs and cut-outs, which traditionally combine illusion and reality.
