As Hong Kong developed into a powerful economy, its commercial aviation industry gradually took shape. Dr. John Wong argues that Hong Kong's emergence as a regional and global aviation hub was not an inevitable outcome of the age of global mobility. Hong Kong Takes Flight explores how the city transformed into an aviation hub, aiming to narrate a globalization process rooted in inter-Asian and regional structures, as well as the formation of global networks. From the perspective of the aviation industry, the author examines Hong Kong's globalization and investigates how policymakers and business leaders, while safeguarding their own interests, worked with international partners and competitors to seek opportunities for socioeconomic benefits. In doing so, they negotiated their respective interests around Hong Kong's economic success and clearly articulated their visions of modernity.
