We hope that the publication of this Special Issue will provide an overview of recent systematic advances in plant science research in China, particularly within forestry research, introduce in-depth perspectives on future developments, and provide a tribute to the 120th anniversary of NJFU. NJFU, as the national "Double First-Class" initiative university featuring modern forestry science, aims to strengthen major national strategies such as biological breeding, ecological civilization construction, rural revitalization, carbon peaks and carbon neutrality, and healthy China, as well as to support high-quality development with high levels of scientific and technological self-reliance.
