Ämnen: Onlineresurser: Sammanfattning: In 1999, we interviewed 23 students who were completing a higher arts education in Norway. They told us why they had started an artistic career and what thoughts and dreams they had about the future. Twenty years later, we contacted the same people again. Most were now in their mid-40s and had quite different stories to tell. This book is based on their accounts of childhood, upbringing, and youth; education; entry into working life; and subsequent careers. What choices did they make at different stages of life and career, and where did those choices lead them? What did they succeed in, and what obstacles and challenges did they encounter along the way? We analyze their narratives in light of factors specific to artistic occupations and the markets in which they work, but also in the context of broader societal developments. The book is suitable for researchers, students, and others interested in artistic work. We also hope it will be useful for arts students and future artists who want to learn more about the working life of artists.
