This study analyzes the process of formalization of the seafood trade in the Quinindé Canton during the period 2023-2024, with the aim of identifying the factors that drove this formalization and the challenges that still persist. A mixed methodology was used, combining surveys of merchants and interviews with local officials. The results show that the main drive towards formalization comes from the need to access credit and comply with legal regulations, which has significantly improved the income of merchants. Este estudio analiza el proceso de formalización del comercio de mariscos en el Cantón Quinindé durante el período 2023-2024, con el objetivo de identificar los factores que impulsaron esta formalización y los desafíos que aún persisten. Se empleó una metodología mixta, combinando encuestas a comerciantes y entrevistas con funcionarios locales. Los resultados muestran que el principal impulso hacia la formalización proviene de la necesidad de acceder a créditos y cumplir con normativas legales, lo cual ha mejorado significativamente los ingresos de los comerciantes. Sin embargo, persisten barreras económicas y burocráticas que limitan la formalización total del sector. Este análisis ofrece recomendaciones para la implementación de políticas que promuevan la formalización sostenible del comercio.
