This development is due to both clinical advances and the implementation of technologies that allow for greater access and higher quality services. However, in recent years, healthcare systems worldwide have faced new financial and organizational challenges reflected in work overload, long working hours, low pay for healthcare personnel, and difficulties accessing and supporting family members and companions, among other factors. These challenges have contributed to the dehumanization evident in the healthcare sector. Therefore, to more fully understand the effects of this problem on the quality of life and well-being of communities, it is essential to examine the concept of humanization, the roles of users and healthcare personnel, and the challenges and opportunities for transforming healthcare services into more humanized environments.Sammanfattning: La atención hospitalaria cuenta hoy en día con sistemas cada vez más eficientes para el diagnóstico, tratamiento y recuperación de las personas con distintas necesidades en salud. Tal desarrollo se debe a tanto a los avances clínicos como a la implementación de tecnologías que permiten más acceso y calidad en los servicios. Sin embargo, durante los últimos años, los sistemas de salud a nivel global se han enfrentado a nuevos retos financieros y organizacionales reflejados en la sobrecarga laboral, las largas jornadas de trabajo, la baja remuneración del personal sanitario, acceso y orientación de familiares y acompañantes, entre otros, que han contribuido al fenómeno de deshumanización que se evidencia en el sector salud. Así, para comprender más ampliamente los efectos de dicha problemática en la calidad de vida y bienestar de las comunidades, es esencial revisar el concepto de humanización, el rol de usuarios y personal de salud y los retos y oportunidades para transformar los servicios de salud en espacios más humanizados.
