Between aesthetic trends and art history mechanisms, we set out in search of the repercussions of aesthetically considered strategies on cultural heritage. At the same time, effects on aesthetic perception are sought, resulting from scientific, philosophical and ideological trends of different historical periods, capable of also having repercussions on heritage expedients. Through the appreciation built in each era of the beauty of its monuments, archaeological ruins and objects, works of art and cultural manifestations, it is questioned to what extent heritage was, after all, conditioned by the aesthetics of its time.Sammanfattning: Partindo do princípio de que a estética, enquanto perceção que temos do belo na natureza e na arte, molda a nossa visão do mundo, Património na estética do seu tempo explora a relação de interdependência entre o pensamento estético e as posturas para com o património cultural, desde o século XVIII até à atualidade. Entre correntes estéticas e mecanismos próprios da história da arte, parte-se em busca das repercussões de estratégicas esteticamente ponderadas sobre o património cultural. Paralelamente, procuram-se efeitos na perceção estética, resultantes das tendências científicas, filosóficas e ideológicas de diferentes períodos históricos, capazes de se repercutir também sobre os expedientes patrimoniais. Através da apreciação construída em cada época sobre a beleza dos seus monumentos, ruínas e objetos arqueológicos, obras de arte e manifestações culturais, questiona-se até que ponto terá o património sido, afinal, condicionado pela estética do seu tempo.
