Ämnen: Onlineresurser: I: Sammanfattning: The electoral successes of populist parties challenging established political entities have led to a new political divide in many countries around the globe, presenting a central conflict between populism and anti-populism. While scholars disagree about specific conceptualisations of anti-populism, there is an agreement that anti-populism presents some form of opposition to populism. Within political communication research, we identify three areas in the study of anti-populism. The first approach deals with anti-populist strategies employed by political actors as a response to populist challenges within the framework of the populism/anti-populism divide. The second stream examines anti-populism as a distinct phenomenon with clearly defined characteristics, presented as an antithesis of populism. The third area covers the role of media in shaping anti-populism in news or public discourse. Understanding anti-populism as both a strategic response and antithesis to populism is pivotal for developing a nuanced understanding of this emerging divide.
