To embark on the history of 22 municipalities over 15 centuries is an odyssey worthy of the chronicles of the best pen of the realm. We set up to do it led by the firm conviction that, for the first time, the history of this region should be approached from a continuous perspective, in a physical and temporal sense. On the one hand, Coimbra and its surrounding region were the stage for several major and subsidiary events which are now integrated in a fluid historical narrative. On the other hand, the volume and diversity of the region's built heritage amply justifies the creation of this network, so that these constructions may be perceived by visitors in a wider context, beyond the actual circumstances of the territory where they arose.

Contar uma história à escala de 22 concelhos e de 15 séculos é uma odisseia; uma aventura digna de ser acompanhada por registos do melhor escrivão da corte. Fazê-lo, partiu da firme convicção de que a história da região de Coimbra merecia ser, de forma inédita, contada segundo uma perspetiva contínua, do ponto de vista físico e temporal. Por um lado, porque Coimbra, e a região envolvente, foi território central em diferentes episódios, capitais e sucedâneos, de uma história que é agora lida com a sua fluidez natural. Por outro, porque a quantidade e diversidade do património edificado que hoje ainda podemos visitar justifica que ele seja enquadrado em rede, a fim de que a sua importância seja efetivamente compreendida num quadro de ação maior do que a simples circunstância do território onde foi outrora erguido.
