This study examines how virtual environments influence the inclusion and retention of students in vulnerable situations within higher education, a crucial issue for achieving greater educational equity. Its main objective is to investigate how online learning platforms can help these students to participate and remain in their academic programs, often facing various socioeconomic as well as technological barriers. A mixed methodological approach involving surveys and interviews targeting students and teachers from different educational institutions was used, providing detailed insights into the experiences and difficulties they face. The findings suggest that, while virtual environments provide flexibility and access to educational materials, they also present important limitations, such as the lack of training in technology and the risk of social isolation, which can negatively impact student retention. It is concluded that the adoption of inclusive strategies can enrich the educational experience of students, favoring their inclusion. This analysis underlines the importance of a comprehensive approach offered by virtual education.

El presente estudio examina cómo los entornos virtuales influyen en la inclusión y la retención de estudiantes en situaciones vulnerables dentro de la educación superior, un tema crucial para lograr una mayor equidad educativa. Su objetivo principal es investigar de qué manera las plataformas de aprendizaje en línea pueden ayudar a estos estudiantes a participar y mantenerse en sus programas académicos, a menudo se enfrentan a diversas barreras tanto socioeconómicas como tecnológicas. Se utilizó un enfoque metodológico mixto que incluyó encuestas y entrevistas dirigidas a estudiantes y docentes de diferentes instituciones educativas, lo que permitió obtener una visión detallada de las experiencias y dificultades que enfrentan. Los hallazgos sugieren que, los entornos virtuales brindan flexibilidad y acceso a materiales educativos, también presentan importantes limitaciones, como la falta de formación en tecnología y el riesgo de aislamiento social, lo que puede impactar negativamente en la retención de estudiantes. Se concluye que la adopción de estrategias inclusivas, puede enriquecer la experiencia educativa de los estudiantes, favoreciendo su inclusión. Este análisis subraya la importancia de un enfoque integral que ofrece la educación virtual.
