Wetenschappers en beleidsmakers bezien klimaat en biodiversiteit nu nog vaak onafhankelijk van elkaar. Vanuit een systeemaanpak, waarbij we oorzaken van biodiversiteitsverlies en klimaatverandering in samenhang benaderen, kunnen we ons richten op de juiste keuzes die transformaties in gang zetten. Die transformaties zijn nodig om een duurzame toekomst voor mens en natuur te bereiken. Wetenschappers laten zien hoe die toekomst haalbaar is. De VN-panels IPCC (klimaat) en IPBES (biodiversiteit) stellen dat daarvoor wel grote veranderingen nodig zijn van ons voedsel-, energie-, industrie-, transport- en stedelijke systeem. In deze uitgave vertellen wetenschappers van de universiteiten van Leiden-Delft-Erasmus daarover. English summaryCurrently, scientists and policymakers often view climate and biodiversity independently. From a systems approach, in which we approach causes of biodiversity loss and climate change in conjunction, we can focus on the right choices that trigger transformations. Those transformations are needed to achieve a sustainable future for people and nature. Scientists are showing how that future is achievable. The UN panels IPCC (climate) and IPBES (biodiversity) argue that major changes are required to our food, energy, industrial, transport, and urban systems.
