In this volume Stephen Kaplowitt scrutinizes the entire lyric production of Minnesanger from Der von Kurenberg to Walther von der Vogelweide, identifying and analyzing every example of the motif. He concludes that, although the motif is widespread, its significance has been considerably exaggerated.
